The Grand Swiss is one of FIDE's flagship events and serves as a crucial qualification tournament for the Candidates Tournament, which in turn determines the challenger for the World Chess Championship title. The event is set to take place at the Villa Marina in Douglas, Isle of Man, from October 25th to November 5th, 2023.

The contract of the Grand Swiss, 2023 was signed in the 2nd week of April, 2022. In addition, the Scheinbergs has also confirmed that they will be sponsoring one major event every year till 2026. They also were the main sponsor of the 2022 Candidates Tournament in the month of June.
Scheinbergs had a history with the game long back. Matafia Scheinberg, the father of Isai Scheinberg was chess master representing Lithuania at Chess Olympiad in the year 1930 and 1931.
Apart from this, Matafia’s both sons also play a significant role in the development of the renowned chess platform the Chess.com.
About the game
The tournament will be played in the Swiss format of 11 rounds. The pairing will be done by the Dutch system of Swiss events. The games will be played in the classic format. Time control of each game will be 100 minutes for the first 40 moves. The game will be extended for 50 minutes for the next 20 moves. If the game is still in the play, then a final extra time of 15 minutes will be provided for the rest of the game. An incremental time of 30 seconds will be added after every move.
According to FIDE, a total of 114 chess masters will be invited under certain criterias which are discussed below.
1 :- Top 100 candidates till the month of June, 2023 will be qualified according to
their rating.
2 :- 4 continental spots will be provided by the respective Continental President.
3 :- 4 spots reserved for the players nominated by the President of FIDE.
4:- The Current Women’s World Champion.
5:- 5 spots for the players nominated by the organisers.

A total prize pool of USD 460,000 will be distributed between the top 46 masters of the tournament. The prize fund for the top 3 are accordingly :-
