FIDE Candidates - Madrid, Spain (2022)



This is the most important tournament in chess taking place every two years. The candidates qualifies the victor to challenge the current world champion in a world chess championship title match. 2022 candidates will feature eight of the world’s best players. They will earn their spots in two years of fierce competition. They now have the Madrid , Spain where every thing will be settled down over a board.



One of those eight spots will always be reserved for the previous world chess championship challenger. Ian Nepomniachtchi would have nothing but a second chance to conquer but he has to get over those 7 great players.

Two spots goes to the top finishers to the most prestigious open chess tournament in the world ‘The FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss’. Alireza Firouzja won the grand Swiss, turn the head of everyone & become the youngest player to cross the ELO rating of 2800 barrier. He would become the youngest chess champion of all time if he wins the candidates. Fabiano Caruana joint him taking the 2nd spot from the Grand Swiss, the U.S. No.1 & the 3 highest rated player in the history of the game is the only person to never lose a classical game to Magnus Carlsen in a world chess championship match.

Two of the spots were claimed by the winners of the most dramatic 2022 FIDE Grand Prix Cycle. GM Hikaru Nakamura is a former world No.2, a blitz & bullets legend and a world famous chess streamer. He was joined by GM Richard Rapport, the Hungarian No.1 is one of the most creative and dangerous minds in the game today and nobody is looking to face him in Madrid.

Fide awarded one of the eight spots to the wild card invite GM Teimour Radjabov. He missed the 2021 Candidate Cycle in the consideration ofthe covid concerns, but as the oldest most experienced player in the field he’s looking to use that knowledge & punch his ticket to the world chess championship title match. With just 10 days to go for the Candidates 2020, Teimour Radjabov has withdrawn his name from the Candidates 2020. For now he has furnished no specifics, citing the reasons are personal. It could well be due to the Coronavirus, but we cannot be sure about it. Teimour's withdrawal meant a last-minute entry for Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. " GM Radjabov from his past 20s "



Finally two spots goes to the top two finishers of the world’s largest knockout tournament, the absolute grueling ‘FIDE World Cup’. Jan Krzysztof Duda , the polish No.1 punched his ticket by outsting none other than the world champion Magnus Carlsen in the semi-final of the event. He ultimately defeated Karjakin in the final of the event to win the world cup, however due to the suspension laid on Karjakin to play by the FIDE, the spot is given to China’s No.1 GM Ding Liren, he takes the spot due to being the highest rated eligible player according to May 2022 FIDE rating list.
